Coachella has long realized how super good-looking and attractive it is, sort-of like that snobby cheerleader at your old high school, and has decided that two weekends in Indio ain’t enough. This December the California festival will take over the Atlantic ocean too. Coachella organizers announced yesterday, via Twitter, the first S.S. Coachella cruise. There’s an impressive bill with Pulp, Hot Chip, Yeasayer and Girl Talk set to headline.
On December 16, 2012, the festival will sail on the Celebrity Silhouette ship from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Bahamas, and then to Jamaica from December 19-23.
Though the cruise festival won’t feature hundreds of acts (like we’re use to), the first bill is impressive. Besides said headliners, organizers have also booked Sleigh Bells, Warpaint, Dj Harvey, Black Lips, the Gaslamp Killer and (my personal favorite) Grimes.
Still, even with Grimes onboard, there’s something very frightening about traveling on a ship, isn’t there? Well according to the L.A. Times, older people love ‘em (we knew that), and cruises are all the rave right now (we didn’t know that). But we’ll find that out when tickets go on sell this Saturday at 10 a.m. PST. Then we’ll find out if music fans are willing to pay $750 (per couple) to go aboard a festival cruise that includes 20+ acts.
