Earlier today we heard audio from the Billboard Music Awards tribute to the late Whitney Houston but right now we get to hear NEW MUSIC from Whitney herself. As you may know, Houston filmed the movie Sparkle late last year and managed to record new music for the film before her untimely death earlier this year. The full audio of the song Celebrate, a duet by Whitney and her Sparkle co-star Jordin Sparks, has made its way to the Internets for our first listening pleasure. Click below to hear the last song recorded by the late Whitney Houston.
It’s a pretty song, one that I think will work well in the film. Hearing this song is … bittersweet. Hearing Whitney singing a new song makes it seem as if she is still with us. For many years, Whitney has been out of the spotlight … but she’s always been there. Listening to this song for the first time made me feel like Whitney is still out there, just not on the scene right now. Does that make sense? It’s really amazing to hear her voice again. I’m sure it’ll be amazing to see her on the big screen again when Sparkle is released later this year. But this new song just makes it seem like she’s still with us … and the eventual realization that she is not brings the tragedy back again.
