Melissa Rycroft has never felt more confident in a bikini! Chris Hayes Apologizes For Criticism of Calling Fallen Soldiers "Heroes"
MSNBC's Chris Hayes sparked major controversy and debate when he said that he felt uncomfortable using the word "hero" for members of the U.S. military.
Hayes' point was that the word is inadvertently used to start more potentially unjust wars - not unreasonable - but now says his own word choice was poor.
After speaking with a former Marine whose job it was to notify families of the death of soldiers, he said that while he means no disrespect to those who serve us all, the word "seems to be rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war."
Hayes also said that, on the flip side, it is "noble" to join the military.
While a "liberal caricature" like himself would not truly understand "submitting so totally to what the electorate or people in power are going to decide about using your body," Hayes conceded, he saw valor in it.
Nevertheless, Hayes' words, on Memorial Day of all days, caused a predictable furor with some. He issued a statement Monday apologizing for his comments:
In discussing the uses of the word "hero" to describe those members of the armed forces who have given their lives, I don't think I lived up to the standards of rigor, respect and empathy for those affected by the issues we discuss that I've set for myself.
I am deeply sorry for that.
As many have rightly pointed out, it's very easy for me, a TV host, to opine about the people who fight our wars, having never dodged a bullet or guarded a post or walked a mile in their boots.
Of course, that is true of the overwhelming majority of our nation's citizens as a whole. One of the points made during Sunday's show was just how removed most Americans are from the wars we fight, how small a percentage of our population is asked to shoulder the entire burden and how easy it becomes to never read the names of those who are wounded and fight and die, to not ask questions about the direction of our strategy in Afghanistan, and to assuage our own collective guilt about this disconnect with a pro-forma ritual that we observe briefly before returning to our barbecues.
But in seeking to discuss the civilian-military divide and the social distance between those who fight and those who don't, I ended up reinforcing it, conforming to a stereotype of a removed pundit whose views are not anchored in the very real and very wrenching experience of this long decade of war. And for that I am truly sorry.

In Touch can exclusively reveal that Rihanna is turning her attention over to another new man — New York Knicks star J.R. Smith.
Multiple sources tell the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now, that the two were spotted getting cozy at Veranda nightclub in NYC on May 6.
“They were very flirty in the club all night and holding hands,” an eyewitness who was at the hotspot tells In Touch. “She was sitting on his lap and was really into him.”
J.R., 26, made headlines in March when he was fined $25,000 by the NBA after tweeting a photo of a woman’s butt in a thong from his bed.
“He is the team’s most controversial player, so it’s no wonder that Rihanna likes him,” says a source.
Her latest hot hookup comes after two recent disses from ex-boyfriends. First, the 24-year-old singer unfollowed Chris Brown on Twitter after he allegedly took an X-rated shot at her promiscuity in a rap, in which he implied she had slept with everyone in the industry. (Chris, 23, soon deleted her from his account, too.) Drake, 25, was next to trash her, releasing a song called “No Lie,” in which he boasted of only wanting to sleep with her once.
“I definitely like high-risk guys,” Rihanna has said. “I don’t like cream puff, corny guys… the nice ones that won’t hurt you. I like the edge. That’s the thrill for me.”

New Mom Beyoncé Returns To The Concert Stage
Just 4 months after giving birth to her first child, Blue Ivy, mama Beyoncé returned to the concert stage in Atlantic City, NJ last night to perform the first of 4 sold out concerts at the Revel Ovation Hall. By all accounts, Bey brought the heat last night and looked in fine form … as if the hadn’t taken off any time at all since the last time she performed on stage. Beyoncé gave birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on Jan. 7, and is now between albums and tours. From a distance, her four-night run of shows through Sunday at Revel, on the boardwalk here, seemed to be functioning as an advertisement for the grand opening of a $2.4 billion casino, hotel, and luxury-shopping cosmos. It was a little unclear what she was going to do for her first post-maternal gig. She didn’t hit the stage until 10 p.m. on Friday … The show lasted two hours and allowed a dip in the middle for ballads, but otherwise ran rampant, functioning as an almost continuous high point: “Freakum Dress”; “Run the World (Girls)”; “Resentment”; “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”; “Halo”; “Countdown”; and “1+1,” which she sang on top of a piano, sitting on her knees. She first appeared in a silhouette, focusing on her middle section, which is back in action. In fact, she changed costumes five times … There were maybe half a dozen interstitial parts involving Super 8-like, grainy-color videos, or dancers moving in various styles to an abstracted bit of melody, or modest light shows. With her all-female band and 10 dancers, she performed with serious stamina and rigor; all that made it different from her stadium shows were stunts, staging tricks that couldn’t be pulled off in a 5,500-seat theater, and perhaps a few less costumes. She had already written the script for this: in “Run the World,” from last year’s album “4,” she sang, “we’re smart enough to make these millions/strong enough to bear the children/then get back to business.” (Not surprisingly, these shows are titled “Back to Business.”) Beyoncé can seem transparent, open, impromptu. She has a fast-reacting face, and opens her eyes wide to look astonished, touched, or grateful. (She did this especially during “Flaws and All,” which she dedicated to her fans: “I don’t know why you love me/And that’s why I love you.”) Then she makes some of the most thorough and gold-plated declarations of self-worth ever rendered in pop. “There’s nothing not to love about me,” she sang (in “Why Don’t You Love Me”), without needing to make a joke out of it. In passing, she performs respect. “Harnessing the power of your body requires responsibility,” she philosophized in a voice-over for one of the in-between films, full of vague dominance-and-submission language and visuals; it was a lead-in to “Naughty Girl,” an older track that begins with a sample of Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby.” One tribute accomplished. Another came later, before “Halo,” with a bit of “I Will Always Love You,” evoking Whitney Houston. She really hasn’t been away from audiences long, but long enough that she has to catch up with business like this.
Yep, none of this surprises me in the least. Beyoncé is a consummate professional and she wouldn’t attempt a return to the concert stage if she wasn’t ready to absolutely KILL her performance. As I’ve mentioned before, Beyoncé put on one of the most impressive, most entertaining live concerts that I have ever seen in my life. I have no doubt that the audience in Atlantic City last night got more than they paid for. I’m glad to see that Bey is back and in fine form. I’m not holding my breath but I’m hoping that Beyoncé will bring her show to the West Coast so that we could have the chance to see her live again.

Jason Trawick to Britney Spears: Come to Bed!
Britney Spears' fiance Jason Trawick, in a sweet video message filmed from bed, sends love and congratulations to his pop star bride-to-be.
After she filmed her first set of X Factor auditions in Austin, Texas, during which she may or may not have walked off the set, Jason said:
"Princess, we just completed our first weekend on X Factor. Just wanted to say I'm very proud of you and I love you so much. Congratulations."
Trawick, Spears' former agent, signs off the brief video with a sweet kiss, joking, "Now get back in here so we can go to sleep."
Spears, meanwhile, responded on Facebook, writing, "Awww love you too Xoxo."
On Thursday and Friday, Britney Spears joined L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell in Austin for her first-ever X Factor auditions.
"Texas has a lot of talent - seriously! Totally loving @TheXFactorUSA auditions so far," Tweeted Spears, who has 15 million reasons to.

Keira Knightley Is Engaged To Her Rocker Beau James Righton
E! News has confirmed today that the British beauty, Keira Knightley is engaged to her rocker boyfriend, James Righton, of the British indie rock band, The Klaxons. Keira and James have been together since 2011 after being introduced by a mutual friend and within weeks became inseparable, moving in together. The two rarely attend celebrity events together, preferring to stay out of the limelight, but are reportedly extremely tight, and are now engaged to be married. Congratulations are in order for these two young lovebirds.
Unsurprisingly, there aren’t many details yet since the engagement is still very fresh news and also because Keira is known for being a very private person, choosing to stay out of the media most of the time.
“I can confirm that Keira is engaged to be married to James Righton,” Knightley’s spokeswoman said, declining to give any further details.
E! News broke the story but we don’t know when or how the proposal took place, and subsequently of course there isn’t any indication yet about a possible wedding date. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t hear much more from the 27-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star given how fiercely private she is, but congratulations are certainly in order for Keira and James. She is going to make one very beautiful bride!
