Conrad Murray Asks For Appeal In Michael Jackson Manslaughter Case

Murray is asking appellate court to re-test a piece of medical evidence from his trial.

The imprisoned cardiologist <a href="/news/articles/1673906/michael-jackson-conrad-murray-verdict-guilty-involuntary-manslaughter.jhtml">convicted of manslaughter</a>  in the 2009 death of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a> filed a request on Monday to have a key piece of evidence in his trial re-tested. Dr. Conrad Murray is asking an appellate court to order a lab to authorize a forensic analysis on residue in a drug vial taken from the bedroom of Jackson's rented Los Angeles estate.According to the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0731-murray-20120731,0,2898322.story" target="_blank">Los Angeles Times</a> Murray's defense team thinks that the 100-milliliter bottle, which was a key piece of evidence at the 2011 trial that ended with Murray's conviction on involuntary manslaughter charges, could help lead to a successful appeal of the sentence.Murray's fingerprint was on the bottle, which prosecutors said held the lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic propofol that killed Jackson. Prosecutors had argued that Murray mixed a small amount of propofol with another anesthetic, lidocaine, in an intravenous drip and then left Jackson unattended.Murray's defense team said the vial was in a bag of trash and was unrelated to Jackson's death, countering that the pop icon injected himself with propofol from a syringe while the doctor wasn't looking."If a forensic examination of the residue in Exhibit 30 revealed no lidocaine, it would completely negate [the prosecution expert's] concluding theory ... leaving only the theory of bolus injection just prior to Jackson's death," appellate attorney Valerie Wass wrote in a filing.This is the third time Murray's lawyers have attempted to launch an appeal on these grounds after they argued that they did not fully comprehend the need to test the residue until the testimony of a prosecution expert near the end of the seven-week trial. During the trial, judge Michael Pastor refused a motion for further analysis shortly after the verdict; a second request was also denied.Murray, 58, received a four-year sentence but is not expected to serve more than two years in county jail.

You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div>Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album.The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. "We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The Who Announce North American Tour And Olympics Performance

The Who are going back on the road. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend announced that they’ll be going on a major North American arena tour where they’ll perform songs from their iconic 1973 album Quadrophenia as well as other Who classics. They also announced that they’ll be performing at the Olympic Games in London.

The Who will embark on a US tour starting November 1, 2012 at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Daltrey and Townshend will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals). Their lengthy tour includes stops in North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, California, Nevada and Colorado, among many others.

This tour will be the first for the band in four years. Daltrey revealed that the “Tupac” idea of creating holographic images of deceased band members Keith Moon and John Entwistle did occur to them, but they decided to pass on it because it would have been too expensive and ‘gimmicky.’

The band will also make a stop in London for the Olympic Games, which run from July 27 to August 12. Daltrey said that the band recorded a piece of music that is “a fabulous ending for the Olympics and just shows the great music that has come out of this country.”

Album Review: Pearl’s ‘Reflection’

Reflection is the debut album of Southern alt-gospel vocalist Pearl. Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, the beauty behind the big voice and humbling tunes of Reflection has written a number of scripture-based songs and poems. Lively acoustic guitar and heart-pounding percussion complements Pearl’s clean, pure vocals on almost every track. The album proves to be multi-dimensional, incorporating choir-filled choruses, soft maracas, and a style ranging from the a cappellas of traditional gospel to a soft jazz that holds pop appeal.

Lyrics like “They hated Him/ So why would I think they like me?” and “I want more than a pat on the back/ I want more than my name on the map/ I want more than this world can offer me” are refreshing and vivacious takes on a Christian outlook that people can relate to from all walks of life. ‘American Idol’ Lands Mariah Carey, Gives Her $18 Million To Judge

Mariah Carey has officially joined American Idol, and will be sitting on the judging panel next season. Rolling Stone is reporting that Carey got a walloping $18 million with a one-year option for her role on the show. This now makes her the highest earning judge on any music competition show. Silly us for making Britney Spears‘ $15 million seem like a lot of money. That’s nothing!

Carey told the press that she was very excited to be joining Idol. Before the deal was done, people speculated that she’d be getting somewhere in between $12 and $17 million to judge, but she beat that. Not only is Carey the newest judge, but her $18 million makes her the highest paid judge across the board.

According to Billboard, Randy Jackson is her manager and suggested Carey to Idol producers a long time ago.

Carey seems like a great fit for a competition show. She’s a singer, not just a performer. Maybe she’ll have better advice to give, who knows.

Still, two judges left the show. Carey fills one of the seats on the judging panel. Idol needs one more. And word is Charlie Sheen, Aretha Franklin and Adam Lambert are all interested in it.

Performing at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami in March and launching her first music video for her club single <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_VcKTkY4Vk" target="_blank">"Inside Out"</a> are just two of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter NiRé AllDai's endeavors since first stepping out as an artist. Her journey, which today sees her selecting songs — including tracks produced by Timbaland and the Stargate camp — for her upcoming debut album, actually began as a writer for other producers and artists."I've always been an artist," NiRé told MTV News. "But my manager was like, 'Let's work this [writer] angle,' and it worked well because I was able to build a lot of really great relationships with dope producers who ended up helping me on my project."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="NiRé AllDai Readies Debut Album" id="vid:789067" width="415" height="255"></div>"I did a first single for Starshell, who was Mary J. Blige's first artist, and the single was called 'SuperLuva' [produced by Fernando Garibay]," NiRé continued. Britney Spears, Demi Lovato Walk Off During 'X Factor' Audition

Sources say judges 'didn't want to waste their time' with lousy contestant in Kansas City.

One "X Factor" contestant learned what happens when you attempt to pull a fast one on the judges. Over the weekend, while <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a>, L.A. Reid and seat-filling judge Louis Walsh (who was assisting an ill Simon Cowell) were in Kansas City, Missouri they walked out on one contestant who attempted to audition with his back to the judges.According to <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602844,00.html" target="_blank">People.com</a> sources, not only did the contestant audition with his back to the panel, but he also wasn't all that talented of a singer, adding insult to injury. "It was really awkward," an eyewitness told the site of the kooky audition. "You could tell the judges were done. I don't think they had a choice. They didn't want to waste their time."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Explains Why She Wanted To Be A Part Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:769620" width="415" height="255"></div>Another onlooker added that the male contestant didn't leave the judges much of an option given his lack of talent. "He was one of the worst singers and had a bad attitude ... [The judges] all hated it and walked off," the source said. Additionally, he had no idea they had walked out since his back was to them for his entire performance.Everyone except Britney eventually made their way back to the judges' table to hear the last contestant. Spears' absence was met with the audience chanting, "Where's Britney?" However, she was only gone for a short time, as she returned later on for another batch of contestants.Spears and Lovato made their debut as <a href="/news/articles/1685844/britney-spears-x-factor-judging.jhtml">"X Factor" judges in late May</a>, weeks after Cowell and Reid appeared at the <a href="/news/articles/1685206/britney-spears-x-factor-concept.jhtml">Fox upfront</a> alongside the singers to announce them as additions to the show. "Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants ... they're so young and they're trying to fulfill their dreams," Spears said at the event. "It's just a whole beautiful concept. Usher's Stepson Kile Glover Laid To Rest In Atlanta

Family and friends gathered at the Wieuca Road Baptist Church for 11-year-old's funeral service Friday (July 27).

Family and friends gathered privately in Atlanta on Friday (July 27) to lay to rest young Kile Glover, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher Raymond</a>'s 11-year old stepson, who died from injuries suffered in a tragic <a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">Jet Ski accident</a> earlier this month.Glover was the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover. He was struck by a Jet Ski while floating in an inner tube on Atlanta's Lake Lanier on July 6.There was no fanfare outside the Wieuca Road Baptist Church on Peachtree Road where the funeral was held, but inside, the Glover, Foster and Raymond families received tremendous amounts of support from many esteemed members of Atlanta's music and political communities. Ludacris, Jazze Pha and Phaedra Parks from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" were just some of the celebrities in attendance. The hour-long service began at 11 a.m.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher's Stepson Kile Glover Is Laid To Rest" id="vid:819972" width="415" height="255"></div>Young Kile was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where doctors subsequently pronounced him brain-dead. "We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told CNN in a statement. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."Glover passed away on July 21 after being removed from <a href="/news/articles/1690157/usher-stepson-kile-glover-taken-off-life-support.jhtml">life support</a>.Atlanta radio personality and Cash Money record artist DJ Greg Street sent out a tweet immediately after hearing the news of Glover's death, expressing his support for the family. "Lil RG is an Angel now, Ryan, Tameka, Usher & the whole Glover Family we gotta make him proud," he wrote.The man driving the Jet Ski has been identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a friend of the family. Police have determined that no drugs were involved in the accident, and Hubbard has not been charged with a crime. Usher's Stepson Declared Brain Dead After Jet-Ski Accident

Things went from bad to worse for Kiie Glover, Usher's 11-year-old stepson. After a tragic Jet Ski accident left the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/07/08/ushers-son-injured-in-jet-ski-accident/">youngster in critical condition</a> on Friday, doctors have now declared him brain dead.<a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/08/usher-tameka-foster-stepson-brain-dead/" target=="_blank">TMZ</a> is reporting that Glover, who is the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted into the hospital two days ago. According to reports, the pre-teen and a friend were floating in inner tubes on Lake Lanier in Atlanta when they were struck by a man on a Jet Ski. Glover was unresponsive when he was taken out of the water and airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston; his friend, an unidentified 15-year old girl, was treated for a cut on the head and a broken arm.According to the <a href="http://www.ajc.com/news/reports-ushers-stepson-injured-1473926.html" target="_blank">Atlanta Journal-Constitution,</a> the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor in the accident and the newspaper also reported that the man on the Jet Ski and Glover were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.Foster and Usher (born Usher Raymond) were married in 2007 but divorced in 2009. The two are reportedly both present at the hospital.Many of Usher and Foster's celebrity friends took to Twitter on Sunday (July 8) to express their deepest sympathies."My deepest prayers go out to Tameka, Usher and both of their families right now," Diggy Simmons wrote."Wishing @TamekaRaymond's son godspeed recovery. horrible news to hear," Roots drummer Questlove added, while television personality La La Anthony wrote: "Praying for @TamekaRaymond and her family. Asking to give her and her family strength during this difficult time. Besides Spring Breakers, Skrillex will be contributing music to Disney’s upcoming and awesome-looking Wreck-It Ralph. According to ScreenCrave, the news was announced yesterday at the Comic-Con Disney panel.
American Idol News: Rumors have been going on forever about Jennifer Lopez’s future at American Idol. But those rumors just became an actuality – Jenny is leaving Idol. And so is Steven Tyler. Both judges have quit the show. According to Billboard, Tyler said that after long, hard thoughts, he’s decided to “let go of [his] mistress,” and return to his “first love, Aerosmith.” Jenny confirmed she was leaving the show on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning. Basically, she’s just too busy being a superstar that she doesn’t have time to be a TV star. And yes, there’s already talks of who’ll be replacing the judges. Billboard reports that Mariah Carey is ‘in serious talks’ to judge Idol.
